No sooner has a disc featuring the recorder music of Anthony Burgess passed through these pages than Kevin Malone’s A Clockwork Operetta , a set of angular cabaret songs commissioned to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the author’s controversial novel A Clockwork Orange, receives a CD release together with a selection of shorter works; the whole is painted in fairly broad strokes but is certainly worth hearing.
