International Record Review

Wearing a pretty respectable composer’s hat in addition to his literary one, Burgess composed extensively for the [recorder] when his son took it up; here his work figures alongside that of 15 other British composers including a few heavy hitters such as Crosse, Josephs and Rawsthorne, who between them run the gamut of style associated with twentieth-century British music in this unusual, slightly delicate form.

As a programme it makes for an intriguing byway, with detailed booklet notes putting each piece into its historical context.
