The Scotsman

Curiously, there seems to be quite a collection of recently written Scottish music for the unlikely combination of soprano, recorder, cello and harpsichord. Whatever the reason, Animal Heaven puts together a rather neat collection of fresh-textured works, including Edward Harper’s quirky Lights out, Lyell Cresswell’s haunting Prayer to Appease the Spirit of the Lamb, Kenneth Leighton’s Britten-like Animal Heaven, Sally Beamish’s delicious Four Findrinny Songs and David Johnson’s narrative, softly whimsical God, Man and the Animals.
